Few sequels have carried as much emotional weight for fans of narrative adventure games as The Wolf Among Us 2. The follow-up to Telltale Games’ acclaimed 2013 hit has become one of the industry’s most prolonged question marks. As of February 16, 2026, exactly four years after its official reveal trailer, the game remains without a release date, new footage or meaningful updates.
The history of The Wolf Among Us 2 is complicated and stretches back nearly a decade. A second season was first announced in 2017, with plans for a 2018 release. Those plans were scrapped when Telltale Games collapsed in 2018 amid bankruptcy and mass layoffs.
The studio was later revived under new ownership by LCG Entertainment. In December 2019, at The Game Awards, The Wolf Among Us 2 was re-revealed as a fresh start rather than a continuation of the original 2017 project. The announcement promised a return to Fabletown and confirmed that Adam Harrington would reprise his role as Bigby Wolf, alongside Erin Yvette as Snow White. The rebooted sequel was initially targeted for 2023.
As development continued, Telltale confirmed a major technical shift. In 2023, the project moved from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. The studio explained that the upgrade would improve long-term quality and help avoid crunch conditions for developers. The change, however, contributed to another delay, pushing the release window to 2024. Despite the promises, updates remained scarce. Over several years, only six new screenshots were released, with no additional gameplay footage beyond the reveal trailer. The lack of visibility began to fuel skepticism among fans.

The project’s instability deepened as key partners exited. AdHoc Studio, formed by former Telltale veterans and responsible for narrative and cinematic work, reportedly left the project around 2023 following creative differences. According to public comments made in 2025 by AdHoc co-founder Pierre Shorette, the studio had completed a full season script and prototypes before departing. By that point, AdHoc had shifted its focus to its own title, Dispatch, released in October 2025.
Another partner, Deck Nine Games, known for Life is Strange: True Colors, also exited the project. Meanwhile, Telltale underwent additional layoffs in September 2023, affecting staff connected to The Wolf Among Us 2. The studio maintained that development was ongoing despite the staffing cuts. The last official statement addressing the game’s status came in October 2024, when Telltale denied cancellation rumors and reiterated that work continued. Since then, there have been no public updates.
As of mid-February 2026, Telltale’s website offers no new information about the sequel. No trailers, screenshots or release windows have been shared in over a year. The silence has led to mounting frustration across social media platforms, Reddit threads and YouTube discussions.
Telltale is not bankrupt today. The studio released The Expanse: A Telltale Series in 2023 and has secured funding to continue operations. Yet 2026 appears to be a critical year. With no major titles launched since The Expanse and continued silence around The Wolf Among Us 2, the company faces mounting pressure to deliver.
