Arcade-style sports games are making a comeback, and a legendary basketball team is joining the trend. Acclaim has announced a new title called Super Basketball Classics featuring the World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters, bringing fast-paced, retro-inspired basketball action to PC (Steam) and consoles.
The game is being released as part of the historic 100th anniversary celebrations for the Harlem Globetrotters, the world-famous basketball entertainers known for their trick shots, comedic routines, and flashy style. Inspired by classic 8-bit and 16-bit sports titles, the new project aims to recreate the feel of old-school arcade hoops while adding the personality and showmanship that made the Globetrotters a global phenomenon.
Rather than focusing on strict simulation, the game embraces quick gameplay. Matches are designed to be easy to jump into, with exaggerated trick shots, over-the-top moves, and chaotic couch co-op moments. Players will be able to compete in full seasons, challenge friends in head-to-head games, or simply try to pull off crowd-pleasing highlight plays.
According to Alex Josef, CEO of Acclaim, the goal is to combine nostalgia with entertainment. He says the game celebrates the arcade basketball experiences many players grew up with while introducing a new generation to the energy and personality of the Globetrotters.
