A long-lost piece of gaming history is finally making its global debut. Bliss Brain Corporation has officially announced that 70s-Style Robot Anime Geppy-X will launch worldwide on July 16, 2026, bringing the once Japan-exclusive cult classic to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S and Steam.

Originally released in 1999, Geppy-X stood out as one of the most ambitious anime-inspired shooters of the CD-ROM era. At a time when developers were pushing the limits of disc-based technology, Geppy-X went all in, delivering a four-disc experience packed with over 8,000 hand-drawn animation frames. It wasn’t just inspired by anime, it was designed to feel like a fully playable 70s super robot TV series.

One of the most notable additions is the ability to switch between fully remastered HD animations and the original footage. The remastered version has been carefully reconstructed using original Betacam master tapes, improved with modern upscaling, and restored to a smooth 24 frames per second. At the same time, the inclusion of the original animation ensures that preservation remains a priority, allowing players to experience the game exactly as it was presented decades ago.

Underneath its cinematic presentation lies a fast-paced side-scrolling shooter that still holds up today. Players can switch between three distinct combat forms in real time, each offering a different playstyle, from balanced precision to high-risk, high-damage output. As the story progresses, the robot evolves into a more powerful form, unlocking new weapons and raising the stakes in increasingly intense encounters.

While the original game was known for its challenging arcade-style difficulty, this new version introduces modern quality-of-life features to make the experience more accessible. Rewind functionality, quick saves, rapid-fire options, and visual filters are all included, allowing players to tailor the experience without compromising the core gameplay.
