Harbour Masters, the team behind popular native PC ports of Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Mario Kart 64, has officially announced Lighthouse, a new Banjo-Kazooie decompilation project scheduled to launch in July.

While the recent Recompiled version already brought higher frame rates and widescreen support, Lighthouse aims to take things even further. Alongside the expected visual improvements, the project will introduce features such as a standalone randomizer, expanded mod support, and even online cooperative play.

For many players, the biggest advantage comes from the fact that Lighthouse is based on a decompilation rather than recompilation. In simple terms, that means the game’s code has been reverse-engineered into a more accessible form, making it significantly easier for modders to create new content and modify existing mechanics.

Harbour Masters showcased several fan-made Banjo-Kazooie projects already running within the port, including popular romhacks and gameplay modifications. The team also teased online co-op support across both the original game and compatible romhacks, something many fans never expected to see.
