Big Walk sold more than one million copies during its first six days, providing further evidence that complete, co-op-only experiences can succeed without adopting live-service progression or competitive multiplayer.
Publisher Panic announced the milestone on August 10th, 2026, shortly after the game’s August 4th launch. Developed by Untitled Goose Game creator House House, Big Walk is available for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. It also launched as a PlayStation Plus Monthly Game.
Panic did not disclose how sales were divided between platforms. GameDiscoverCo estimates that approximately 3.5 million people had played the game across all platforms by August 21st, including roughly two million PlayStation Plus subscribers, although those figures have not been confirmed by Panic.
Rather than allowing solo play, Big Walk supports groups of between two and 12 players exploring a shared world. Its puzzles are built around cooperation, gestures and proximity voice chat, with voices changing depending on distance and the surrounding environment.
GameDiscoverCo found considerable Steam audience overlap between Big Walk and multiplayer releases such as PEAK, Lethal Company, Tabletop Simulator and Golf With Your Friends. The newsletter argues that these games increasingly function as part of players’ regular social lives rather than experiences built entirely around progression or rewards.
The success of Hazelight’s It Takes Two and Split Fiction, alongside the continuing popularity of the We Were Here series, had already demonstrated an audience for mandatory cooperation. One million sales does not guarantee an approaching wave of similar games, but Big Walk strengthens the commercial case for developers designing specifically around communication between friends.
These games create entertaining moments through the players themselves. Proximity chat, imperfect communication and puzzles requiring coordination produce stories that can be shared with friends or turned into entertaining streams and videos. Their appeal therefore extends beyond mechanical progression, as the social interaction becomes the principal reward.
