Team Lazerbeam and Devolver Digital have announced that Shroom and Gloom will enter Steam Early Access on September 10th, 2026. A playable demo is already available through the platform.

Described as a first-person roguelike double-deck-builder, Shroom and Gloom gives players separate decks for exploration and combat. The Explore deck contains cards used to reveal paths, search rooms, unlock obstacles, repair objects and interact with the surrounding dungeon. When hostile fungi appear, players switch to the Combat deck to attack, cook and consume their opponents.

Defeated enemies can be skewered, seasoned and roasted before being eaten to restore health. Alternatively, their remains can be thrown into a cooking pot to produce soups with potentially run-changing effects. Cards can also be repeatedly modified and upgraded, allowing basic starting attacks to develop into considerably more powerful abilities.

Team Lazerbeam says the game will feature hundreds of cards, persistent progression and numerous enemies spread throughout a connected underground cave network. Visually, Shroom and Gloom combines hand-drawn characters and objects with three-dimensional environments.
