Strictly Limited Games and Atari are bringing Mr. Nutz and Mr. Nutz: Hoppin’ Mad back to original 16-bit hardware through a collection of newly produced physical cartridges.
The original Mr. Nutz will receive separate PAL and NTSC editions for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, alongside Genesis and Mega Drive versions. Mr. Nutz: Hoppin’ Mad will be released for the Genesis and Mega Drive, marking the previously cancelled port’s first commercial appearance on Sega hardware.
Pre-orders opened on August 21st, 2026, with every edition priced at €49.99 before shipping. Strictly Limited expects the cartridges to begin shipping during Q1 2027.
Originally released during the early 1990s, Mr. Nutz follows a red squirrel attempting to prevent Mr. Blizzard from freezing the planet. The side-scrolling platformer takes players through forests, caves and frozen environments containing alternative paths, collectibles and hidden areas.
Mr. Nutz: Hoppin’ Mad has a more complicated history. Developed by Neon Studios and released for the Amiga in 1994, it features faster platforming stages connected through an explorable overworld. Its story puts the protagonist against an invading force of Alien Chickens.
A Mega Drive conversion was developed under the title Mr. Nutz 2 and planned for release in 1995, but Ocean Software never published it. Strictly Limited’s cartridge therefore gives the abandoned console version a commercial release more than three decades later.
The cartridges are intended for original hardware rather than modern consoles, so buyers will need to select the edition compatible with their system and region.
