Top Hat Studios and developer Numor Games have announced that The Backworld, a turn-based RPG infused with narrative-driven horror, will be released in the first quarter of 2026 on unspecified consoles and PC via Steam. The game promises a unique blend of exploration and strategy, inviting you to navigate a fragmented multiverse.
In The Backworld, you are immersed in a shattered reality where danger lurks at every turn, as you explore endless dimensions to confront chaotic entities. By using a hoverboard to traverse dark voids and hacking cyberspace with an alien engineer, you carve your own path. The non-linear universe offers countless routes, merging surreal horror with JRPG-inspired fantasy, sci-fi worlds, and even your own hometown.
You can fight, sneak past enemies, or use diplomacy to shape your journey, with every decision carrying weight. Combat blends turn-based abilities with action skills like dodging or sprinting, and equipping items adds depth. Additionally, you can recruit a diverse crew of companions, from sorcerers to robots, each with unique abilities and combat resources like mana or energy.
