Dave the Diver creator Jaeho Hwang has big plans for the future. After the success of Dave the Diver, which sold over 4 million copies and won a BAFTA award, Hwang aims to expand the game’s universe with new titles focusing on different characters and exploring various genres.

Hwang is now CEO of Mintrocket, which became an independent studio separated from Nexon due to the success of Dave the Diver. This independence gives Mintrocket more freedom to focus on game development, especially expanding the Dave the Diver franchise.

Speaking at Gamescom Asia in Singapore, Hwang shared his vision: “I want to expand the Dave the Diver IP.” He explained that while the original game was light and relaxing, he hopes to explore the characters’ backstories in more depth. This includes creating new games showing how characters met and what their lives were like before arriving at Blue Hole, the central location in Dave the Diver.

He also hinted that new games may explore different genres, such as a game focusing on Dave’s backstory in new situations. One notable side character, Cobra, has an intriguing backstory, first introduced in Hwang’s previous game Evil Factory as a weapons dealer who eventually ended up in Blue Hole.

Despite Mintrocket’s growth, Hwang plans to keep the team small, believing that 20–30 people is ideal for communication and alignment. He is determined to keep the development team focused and compact.
