A cult-favorite Duke Nukem spin-off has returned to PC with a modern upgrade. Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project is now available in an Enhanced Edition, bringing the 2002 action-platformer back to life with improved compatibility and new features for modern systems.
Originally developed by Sunstorm Interactive and produced by 3D Realms, the game blends side-scrolling platforming with run-and-gun action in a 2.5D format. In this adventure, players once again step into the boots of Duke Nukem as he battles the villain Mech Morphix across eight stylized New York City environments, from skyscrapers to dangerous subway tunnels.
Gameplay centers on blasting through waves of mutated enemies while navigating levels filled with traps and secrets. The story revolves around the mysterious green substance GLOPP, which mutates enemies into stronger monsters if left unchecked. Armed with a familiar arsenal that includes rocket launchers, pipe bombs, machine guns, and pulse cannons, players fight through roughly three to five hours of action-packed gameplay while delivering Duke’s signature one-liners.

The new Enhanced Edition, available exclusively through ZOOM Platform for $5.99, aims to modernize the experience while preserving the original game. The release includes Classic and Enhanced play modes, support for widescreen and ultrawide displays, improved graphical filtering, and compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11. It also adds new extras such as a level editor, modding tools, and the “Deep Freeze” campaign, which introduces additional levels and gameplay mechanics.
Another major advantage of this version is that it’s completely DRM-free, helping preserve a title that disappeared from major storefronts in 2015 after licensing issues led to its removal from platforms like Steam and GOG. By updating the game for modern hardware and bundling modding support, the re-release ensures that a lesser-known chapter of Duke Nukem history remains playable.
