The creators of the popular retro platformer Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games, presented their new title Mina the Hollower, at this year’s Summer Game Fest. This action-adventure platformer will be released on October 31, 2025, perfectly coinciding with Halloween. The trailer showcased its retro 8-bit style and spooky charm, and it will be available for PC via Steam, where a demo version is already playable.

You play as Mina, a renowned inventor and “hollower” (digger), whose task is to save the island from a curse. Inspired by Game Boy Color graphics, it allows you to explore a vast, interconnected world. You will jump, dodge, and burrow underground to traverse obstacles and fight enemies. Mina’s faithful whip, Nightstar, is her primary weapon, but you can also use an arsenal of unique side weapons, each with different moves.

In addition to the above, the trailer highlighted the detailed animations and visuals that enhance the retro aesthetic with a more modern approach. The spooky yet touching story, inspired by Victorian Gothic horror, sets the tone, while the MSX-style electric soundtrack by chiptune master Jake Kaufman contributes to the atmosphere. In the game, you will also encounter bizarre characters, uncover secrets in exotic locations, and face bosses as you explore a world full of interconnected zones.
