Solo developer qLate and indie publisher indie.io have announced the release of Everwarder, a unique blend of roguelite action and the tower defense genre. The game launches on Steam on February 6th, taking players on a neon-infused adventure where they must protect an imprisoned spirit from the encroaching darkness.
In Everwarder, you take on the role of a mystical warden tasked with defending a crystal holding an entrapped friend. As darkness covers the map, waves of enemies appear, threatening the crystal’s safety. To survive, you must: strategically place defenses to halt the enemies, actively engage in the action, and explore procedurally generated maps to uncover resources and secrets that can give you an edge.
This isn’t a typical tower defense game. Unlike static defense systems, Everwarder allows for free movement and gives you complete control over the map. Beyond protecting your crystal, your task is also to push back the darkness by revealing hidden parts of the map while gathering supplies and adapting to ever-changing challenges. Over time, you’ll unlock new abilities, artifacts, and upgrades, allowing you to create powerful builds tailored to your playstyle.
According to Oleh, the solo developer behind qLate studio, Everwarder was created to innovate within the tower defense genre: “I wanted to create something that breaks out of the static nature of traditional tower defense games. In Everwarder, you control the flow of enemies, and if you get defeated, the responsibility is entirely yours.”
