After initially seeing SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed during this year’s Triple-i Initiative Showcase three months ago, tinyBuild revealed at its Connect event yesterday that a Playtest on Steam for this competitive platformer is expected this summer, although the exact date is still unknown.

SpeedRunners 2 will bring the same adrenaline-fueled combination of platforming and competitive running, but with new challenges and richer multiplayer. The goal is clear, just like in the original: outrun opponents, use power-ups such as rockets and traps, and avoid elimination by falling off the screen. Classic mechanics like sliding, wall-jumping, and using the grappling hook remain the core of the game, but now, with additional strategic layers, the dynamics are taken to a higher level.

In addition to having up to eight players competing in one race, SpeedRunners 2 also brings redesigned HD graphics, improved grid infrastructure, and a colorful palette of characters, both old and new. As in the original, the tracks are inspired by retro-futuristic visions from the 1960s, which further enrich the visual identity. Along with all of the above, SpeedRunners 2 will also feature tournaments, customized challenges, and private rooms for all types of competition.
