Republic of Pirates was revealed during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted event with a trailer showcasing naval city-building, management, and ship combat. While there is a long pedigree of pirates in PC gaming history, this discovery is more akin to Anno 1800 than games like Sea of Thieves or classics such as Sid Meier’s Pirates!

Instead of fighting other pirate captains or committing pirate war crimes, Republic of Pirates wants you to build a pirate empire. Following the standards of the city-builder genre, you will plan what and where to build, optimize resource acquisition, manage the assignment of your workers, and try to meet the needs of a growing population. You will also expand to new islands and take over settlements for resources.

In the game, you will be able to command a fleet of ships, engage in strategic real-time combat, and use a tactical map to plan and execute your next attack. You will have to counter enemy fleets and bombard their port defenses to conquer other islands on the open ocean. You can also accept bounties or attack specific settlements as part of your expansion during the campaign playthrough.

You can expect more than 30 hours of content, 8 unique ship classes, the ability to recruit captains and hone their skills to unlock new specializations and combat tactics, and 100 different buildings.

Republic of Pirates will appear on Steam and the Epic Games Store sometime in 2024.
