Stray Kite Studios, a team made up of former developers who worked on games such as Age of Empires, Borderlands, and BioShock, has unveiled their new game Wartorn. This real-time tactical roguelite is planned for an Early Access launch this spring on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game promises a deep and emotional story combined with strategic gameplay mechanics.

In Wartorn, you follow the story of two sisters, Yara and Elana, who are forced to flee their home. Their goal is to reach safety in Beynun, their ancient stronghold, as they traverse the war-torn islands of Talaura. On their journey, they must recruit allies, harness the power of the elements, and overcome the challenges of a destroyed world plagued by conflict.

Wartorn introduces a complex elemental system that influences every battle. Elements such as fire, water, tar, plants, and lightning interact with each other in unique ways. For example, water puts out fire but strengthens plant-related troops; tar amplifies the effects of fire, while electricity can travel through wet conditions, creating devastating chain attacks.

In the game, you build a caravan by recruiting troops of fantastic creatures like goblins, elves, demons, and treants. Each troop possesses unique characteristics and abilities that unlock new strategic possibilities. The key to success lies in smart positioning on the battlefield, creating powerful combinations, and skillfully using each troop’s abilities. However, losses affect morale, and if morale drops too low, the caravan’s journey ends.
