Ukrainian development studio Frogwares, which is currently working on the survival horror title The Sinking City 2, has announced a delay, shifting the game’s release window to the first half of 2026. The studio explicitly cited the ongoing challenges related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine as the reason for the postponement.

“Ongoing challenges related to the war in Ukraine, including frequent drone and missile attacks, incoming power outages, and the need to constantly adapt to unstable conditions, have affected our development pace,” the team explained. They concluded that rushing to meet an obsolete target would compromise quality, necessitating the extra time to finish the project properly.

The additional development time will also be used to refine a fundamental design shift for the franchise. The Sinking City 2 represents Frogwares’ first venture into the survival horror genre, moving away from the investigative adventure design that defined their previous decades of work. The sequel builds on the Lovecraftian foundations of the original 2019 game, The Sinking City, but emphasizes resource management, combat against various enemies, tension, and atmosphere in its 1920s setting.

“Shifting from decades of investigative adventure design to a genre built on tension, pacing, combat and atmosphere has been both exciting and demanding, and we want to make sure every part of it feels right when you finally play it,” the studio stated. They assured fans that the extra time will help deliver the experience they envisioned from the start: “tense, atmospheric, and deeply unsettling.”

The Sinking City 2 is currently targeting PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
