During the Nintendo Direct livestream on April 2, 2025, Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially confirmed with a planned release in 2025. The event featured a snippet of upcoming games, including Silksong. While an exact release date was not provided, this is the most concrete information Team Cherry and Nintendo have shared since the game was first revealed.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced on February 14, 2019, by the Australian indie studio Team Cherry. Initially conceived as DLC for the acclaimed Hollow Knight (2017), the project gradually expanded into a full sequel. Players take control of Hornet, a familiar character from the original game, as she explores the new kingdom of Pharloom.

Team Cherry originally aimed for a release in the first half of 2023, as hinted during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase in June 2022, where it was also confirmed that the game would be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. However, on May 10, 2023, Matthew Griffin, Head of Marketing and Publishing at Team Cherry, announced that the game was delayed due to ongoing development and the expanded scope. In the following years, the studio occasionally shared updates, and in January 2025, they confirmed that the game was still “real, progressing, and will be released,” though without a specific timeframe—until now.

The Nintendo Direct also confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will release on multiple platforms: Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam).
