This upcoming roguelike combines the best elements of these genres into a fast-paced and dynamic action game. Hordes of Hunger is set to release in Early Access on March 6, 2025, and you can already try an expanded demo version on Steam.
Hordes of Hunger is a roguelike ARPG where you take on the role of a warrior fighting waves of bloodthirsty creatures. Unlike Vampire Survivors, where attacks are automatic, here you have complete control over your character, making the game similar to Diablo but with a run-based progression mechanic. Each wave brings new objectives, such as defending against monster hordes, rescuing survivors, or conquering food storage for the hungry.
As you progress, you earn upgrades that allow you to customize your character. At each level-up, you choose between three different options, allowing you to evolve your playstyle according to your own preferences, whether you rely on raw power, lightning-fast evasive maneuvers, or powerful counterattacks.
The combat is fast and strategic. Enemies actively attack, and you must dodge, block, or counter their attacks to survive. The game offers a short side-step for quick positional changes and a longer dash with invincibility frames, which helps you escape difficult situations.
