Last year, we learned that Hotel Barcelona would indeed be released in 2025, and during the ID@Xbox Showcase, we received a new gameplay trailer. Hotel Barcelona is a side-scrolling horror action roguelite, which will be available for PC via Steam, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. The title is being worked on by legendary Japanese developers Hidetaka Suehiro (Deadly Premonition, D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die) and Goichi Suda (No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw).
In Hotel Barcelona, you play as Justine, a rookie US Marshal with one problem: she is possessed by the unbalanced soul of a serial killer, Dr. Canival. Trapped within the hotel’s hazardous area, Justine must fight her way through seven worlds, full of bloodthirsty enemies and bosses inspired by horror classics.
The game stands out with its mix of horror, action, and roguelite elements. You will face seven grueling hellscapes, each with its unique challenges and final bosses that you will have to defeat through skill and strategy. It is designed to test your mettle while offering a brutally difficult experience that rewards persistence and adaptability.
One of its most interesting features is the “Slasher Phantoms” mechanic. When you die, the echoes of your previous failed attempts return as allies, dealing damage and acting as decoys to aid in future runs. It also includes a co-op mode, allowing up to three players to team up online and fight enemies together. For those seeking a more competitive spirit, a PvP mode allows you to invade your friends’ games and wreak havoc.
