Lost in Cult Editions Redefines Physical Games with a Focus on Art and Preservation

Lost in Cult has decided to make a bold move for physical media with the newly established brand Editions, dedicated to indie games. This UK studio, already known for its lavish Design Works art books and Lock-On gaming magazines, is now entering game publishing with a focus on preservation and curation.

Their mission is to create collectible, complete physical editions on discs that will last for a long time, while remaining accessible to everyone. The brand officially launched with three acclaimed indie games: Immortality for PS5, The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow for Nintendo Switch, and Thank Goodness You’re Here! for PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

Each game comes in two formats: a Standard Retail Edition, distributed by PM Studios, and a limited Editions Premium Edition, exclusively available for purchase via the Lost in Cult website. The Standard Editions, priced around £29.99 (approximately $40), are available online and in stores, ensuring that price is not a barrier to owning a physical copy. The Premium Editions, priced at £59.99 (about $75), are aimed at collectors, with a limited run of 1,000–3,000 copies per title and packed with extra content.

Each premium edition comes in a custom, seasonally changing box designed by Lost in Cult’s Art Director, Stephen Maurice Graham. Inside, you’ll find an outer sleeve with original, logo-free art, an alternative retail cover, an authentic developer-signed art card, four high-quality art cards, a fold-out poster, a custom sticker, and a 40-page booklet. The booklet is edited by former Edge Magazine writer, Chris Schilling, and details the story, influence, and creation of each game through developer interviews and analytical essays.

Looking ahead, Lost in Cult plans monthly Editions releases starting in July 2025, with Switch 2 versions in the pipeline. While Xbox is currently not included due to logistical challenges, the roster could include titles like Rollerdrome, and the brand is also not limited to indie games, as AAA titles could also receive the Editions treatment if they fit the artistic vision.
