Nintendo has confirmed that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in North America will reopen on April 24, 2025, with the console’s price remaining unchanged at $449.99 or €469.99. The company stated that the console itself is currently not affected by the tariffs introduced by the Trump administration, but accessories for the Nintendo Switch 2 will see price increases precisely because of these tariffs.

Pre-orders were initially scheduled for April 9, 2025, but were postponed due to the announcement of new tariffs on the same day the Switch 2 was fully revealed. The tariffs led to price increases for accessories of approximately 5–6 percent. The price of the Pro Controller rose from $79.99 to $84.99, while a pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers now costs $94.99 (up from $89.99). The Nintendo Switch 2 Dock increased by 9 percent, from $109.99 to $119.99, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera saw a 10-percent increase, from $49.99 to $54.99.

The camera price increase could impact Nintendo’s plans for the “GameChat” feature, designed as a new social hub that allows players to converse within different games. Nintendo confirmed that USB-C support for third-party cameras will remain active, which could mitigate the price hike, although those manufacturers might also raise prices due to the tariffs.

Although the Trump administration temporarily halted most announced tariffs for 90 days on April 9th, the 145 percent tariff on goods manufactured in China remains in effect. Recent communication from the administration was unclear; on April 11th, smartphones and monitors received an exemption, but consoles were not included. Officials later clarified that these devices were only recategorized.

If the tariffs take full effect after the 90 days expire, the current price adjustments may not cover the additional costs for devices entering the US. Nintendo is reportedly preparing by accelerating the shipment of consoles from its manufacturing facilities in China and Vietnam to the US market. They also warned that further price increases for the Switch 2, physical games, or other products could follow, depending on market conditions.
