Steelkrill Studio, the developer behind the NYX Award-winning horror game The Backrooms 1998, has confirmed that its next psychological horror title The 18th Attic will launch on February 2, 2026 on PC via Steam.
The 18th Attic is a sequel to The Stairway 7 and takes inspiration from classic horror games like Fatal Frame and Resident Evil. You take on the role of a man trapped in a repeating loop inside a haunted attic. He has no weapons, only an instant camera, which becomes the key tool for survival and the main gameplay focuses on taking photos of ghostly threats, including strange shadows, spirits, and unsettling changes in the environment.
Every successful photo unlocks a memory, slowly uncovering the truth behind the haunting since the spirits are dangerous and often try to confuse or scare the player. Some can attack directly, causing the character’s sanity to drop as the tension rises.
To recover sanity, you must interact with a cat that stays with you throughout the game. Petting the cat provides a moment of calm in an otherwise stressful experience and becomes an important part of staying alive.
