Announced at Summer Game Fest 2025, Scott Pilgrim EX is a new side-scrolling beat ’em up game developed by Tribute Games in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences and series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. The game is expected to be released in early 2026 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
Scott Pilgrim EX revives the beloved universe, first seen in the 2010 game Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. The plot is set in a shattered, time-warped Toronto, overrun by three rival gangs. You will follow Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, and five other playable characters in a fight to save the city. The story is co-written by O’Malley and draws inspiration from the Netflix series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023), introducing time travel and fresh narrative twists.
You can expect a chaotic blend of fists and wacky weapons in a brawler that rewards strategy and improvisation. Additionally, this title supports up to four players in local and online co-op, where each character has their unique move sets and upgradeable stats. Furthermore, light RPG elements and non-linear exploration sections allow you to wander freely through Toronto, discovering its history, “easter eggs,” and special items.
Tribute Games is known for the game TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and brings their expertise in retro gaming, while pixel artist Paul Robertson and Takes Off series director BenDavid Grabinski bring authenticity to this project. “This game is about friendship, our love for video games, music, and punching robots in the face,” stated O’Malley.
