Independent studio Skytrace is preparing to release Rising Sun on PC via Steam, an open-world street racing game set in the fictional Japanese prefecture of Amanokawa. The exact launch date has not yet been revealed, but the game aims to deliver an anime-inspired racing experience built around speed, customization, and drifting.

Rising Sun will include many types of races: Drift events reward smooth slides, while Sprint races are all about fast times on winding roads. Additionally, Circuit races take place on closed tracks and demand sharp overtakes, Drag races focus on perfect acceleration and gear changes, and Touge challenges players to control huge drifts on dangerous mountain routes, especially during nighttime runs.

The world is filled with extra challenges outside of official races where random events pop up across the map, giving players small tasks or new ways to earn access to routes. But reckless driving has consequences as police patrol the streets, using spike strips and blockades to stop racers. They become more aggressive at night, and getting caught can lead to losing some of your tuned vehicles, adding pressure and strategy to every chase.

Customization is a key part of the game since you can adjust how your cars perform by improving acceleration, handling, and balance to suit drifting, climbing mountain roads, or racing straight lines. Visual upgrades, including body kits, paint, rims, and lights, let drivers create unique cars that reflect their personalities.

Skytrace also explained that AI tools were used only in early development to help create draft concepts like artwork and music ideas. These were later refined by hand, and all final game assets were made specifically for Rising Sun.
