SOL Shogunate was one of the standout reveals at the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted 2025 on December 4. Developed and published by indie studio Chaos Manufacturing, formed by veterans from Riot Games, Blizzard, CD Projekt RED, and Guerrilla Games, the game is a singleplayer action RPG described as a “samurai space opera.” It mixes stylish hack-and-slash combat with a bold blend of cyberpunk and feudal Japan.
The game takes place in a future solar system ruled by Shogunate clans, where the sword still decides authority. Most of the action unfolds on the Moon, which has been reshaped over 150 years into cities set inside craters, protected by artificial gravity domes known as “lunar glasses.”
Players become Yuzuki, the shattered heir of the Tennoji clan, which was wiped out by the rival Karasuma Clan. Now living as an outlaw ronin, Yuzuki travels across the Moon’s themed regions seeking revenge. These areas pay tribute to different periods of Japanese history, from feudal-style Shin Edo to 1980s-inspired Tenkyo. The world features space elevators, bullet trains, elite districts, and harsh worker hives deep below. To move across the terrain, Yuzuki rides a robotic horse or a single-wheel cycle.
SOL Shogunate draws inspiration from action classics such as Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta. It aims for fast, explosive battles that feel almost like watching a music video. Combat revolves around mastering re-engineered traditional weapons, especially the katana. Players will learn unique fighting styles, wield elemental effects like electricity, and break through enemy defenses using a system called the Vulnerability Matrix.
Character growth focuses on deep customization through gene-splicing, offering skills like bio-ceramic skin and improved vision to unlock varied combos and playstyles. Movement includes Gravity Assist Gear, with a jetpack and nano-fiber grappling cables that allow low-gravity jumps, enemy pulls, hazard control, and electrified attacks.
The project is still early in development and is aiming for a 2027 release on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
