Above the Desk, the studio behind Above the Snow, has announced The Lunacy: That Game About a Cult, a dark-comedy management game coming to PC via Steam. A release date has not been confirmed.

Set in Spain during the Inquisition, The Lunacy follows a self-proclaimed prophet who begins hearing ancient gods after suffering a blow to the head. Whether those gods actually exist remains deliberately unclear, leaving players to balance supposed divine revelation against possible delusion.

Players will establish an underground temple beneath the city and gradually transform it into the centre of a growing cult. A gridless construction system allows rooms to be arranged freely and filled with shrines, pews, relics, skull piles, libraries and even a secret tavern.

Managing the congregation involves assigning work, crafting resources, delivering sermons and performing rituals that unlock additional systems. Followers must remain productive, loyal and sufficiently convinced that their leader really is the chosen one.

Acolytes can also be sent into the Renaissance city on expeditions. These missions involve preaching, stealing, spying, gathering supplies, fishing and navigating hundreds of handcrafted events while avoiding the attention of the Inquisition.

Information gathered during expeditions can be used to manipulate residents, expand the cult’s influence and prepare individual districts for rebellion. What begins as a hidden struggle for survival can eventually become an open campaign to seize the city.
