11 bit studios has announced and released a significant free content update for its narrative survival game The Alters. The major patch introduces a variety of new systems, customization options, and highly requested features designed to enrich the experience of managing multiple versions of protagonist Jan. You can also read our review of the game here.
The update broadens the functionality of the game’s unique premise where the player controls a workforce of “Alters,” or alternate-reality versions of themselves by providing new ways to manage the growing stress and complexity of survival.
A key addition is the Gamer’s Den, a new area within the base offering the Alters a dedicated space to unwind. Complementing this is a Fully Playable Card Game, allowing players to challenge their other selves in a diversion that doesn’t revolve around existential dread or the pressures of the dying star.
Customization options have also been expanded to allow players to personalize their experience. The update introduces Custom Base Skins to change the look of the mobile headquarters and Custom Spacesuit Skins, ensuring that “style points matter” even in a life-or-death scenario. Additionally, a Photo Mode is now available too.
For those who wish to focus purely on the narrative, the new Relax Mode has been included, offering a less stressful way to follow the story and moral dilemmas of the game. The update also integrates a New Save System, giving you greater control over your branching decisions and subsequent outcomes. Finally, 11 bit studios has introduced a New Noir-Styled Storyline.
The Alters is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG. The developer also teased that downloadable content is due out in 2026.
