European Union Gathers €7.5 Million to Fund Creative Europe Program for 2024

The European Union has allocated a total of €7.5 million (or $8.05 million) for game development through its Creative Europe program. Specifically, the €7.5 million will be distributed across 22 countries. Creative Europe focuses on the cultural and creative sectors of a country, and this includes video games. Germany is the second largest recipient with €818.2 million, trailing only France with €831.9 million.

The funds will be distributed to projects from studios in the DACH region (three Central European countries), such as Mi’Pu’Mi Games from Vienna and Germany’s Reynard Films from Leipzig. Both studios, as well as Proxy Studios in Tübingen, will receive €150,000 each.

The Games Foundation in Kiel and Vest Games will receive between €140,000 and €145,000, while Nürtingen will receive slightly over €830,000. Following Germany in funding size are Italy (€766.4 million), Denmark (€600 million), and Poland (€599.67 million). Croatia is in 12th place and received a grant of €208,850. At the bottom of the list are Serbia (€144.9 million) and Ireland (€103.39 million).

Last year, the German Ministry of Culture allocated a €100 million subsidy for its game studios over the next three years, making Germany and France home to numerous developers, from Ubisoft to Daedalic. Most of the funded countries have multiple projects underway; Italy also has seven, and France has six. Studios lower on the list have funding for only one or two projects.
