Canadian indie studio Hatchery Games, made up of former Skylanders developers, is getting ready to launch its upcoming sci-fi shooter Voidling Bound on PC next month. The game officially arrives on Steam on June 9, 2026 with console versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 planned for a later date.

The newly released trailer gives a much better look at what the game is actually trying to do, and it’s shaping up to be one of the stranger and more creative indie projects coming this year. A lot of players have already compared it to a mix between Spore and Warframe, which feels pretty accurate once you see the gameplay in motion.

In Voidling Bound, you directly control creatures known as Voidlings while fighting across corrupted alien planets filled with swarms, mutated enemies, and massive bosses. The main hook is the evolution system. Every Voidling can branch into different evolutionary paths that completely alter its appearance, abilities, elemental alignment, and overall playstyle.

The game also leans heavily into experimentation and customization. You can discover rare genes, hatch new creatures from rescued eggs, and even breed Voidlings together to combine traits and create stronger builds. From changing body parts and colors to stacking mutations and perks, the whole system seems designed around building weird combinations and seeing what works.

Combat itself looks surprisingly fast-paced for a creature-based game. Instead of simply commanding companions from a distance, you fully control your Voidlings in real time, using melee attacks, ranged abilities, slams, and movement skills while constantly upgrading stats like agility, vitality, and strength.
