Sega is taking a broader, more ambitious approach to its legacy franchises, aiming to turn decades of history into something more unified and forward-looking. Under a newly announced initiative SEGA UNIVERSE, the company is looking to reintroduce its classic IP in a way that goes beyond simple remasters or re-releases.
SEGA UNIVERSE is built around the motto “NO OLD, STAY GOLD,” signaling a shift toward treating older franchises as evolving parts of a shared ecosystem rather than static pieces of nostalgia. According to Sega, the goal is to expand these properties into multiple forms of entertainment, including games, films, music, and even fashion, while preserving their original identity for a new generation.
As part of the initiative, Sega is also highlighting several major anniversaries in 2026. Fantasy Zone and Out Run are celebrating 40 years, while Streets of Rage and Rent-A-Hero mark 35 years. Meanwhile, titles such as Guardian Heroes, NiGHTS, Dynamite Deka (also known as Dynamite Cop), and Sakura Wars reach their 30th anniversaries, with Segagaga hitting 25 years.
While no specific projects, such as new games, remakes, or adaptations, have been officially confirmed, Sega has made it clear that the focus will be on new interpretations rather than straightforward nostalgia.
