DigiBitPlay Turns Digital Libraries Into Physical Collections

If you enjoy independent indie game coverage, consider supporting Indie-Games.eu on Patreon. It helps keep the site independent.

DigiBitPlay is taking a tactile approach to emulator frontends by presenting digital game libraries through interactive three-dimensional boxes, discs, cartridges, consoles and manuals.

Available for Android, Windows and macOS, the application uses animations showing games being removed from their cases and inserted into the appropriate hardware. Individual systems feature correctly proportioned cases and distinct console-opening animations.

Users can connect DigiBitPlay to ScreenScraper and view compatible scanned PDF manuals inside a 3D reader. Pages can be turned individually, while controller commands provide rotation, panning and zoom controls.

The free version currently focuses on PlayStation and PlayStation 2 libraries. It includes system-specific sounds, scanned manuals and console animations, although newer builds and additional functionality are limited to paid Patreon supporters.

Creator Chris told Retro Dodo that AI assisted with early concepts, temporary visual material, image editing and repetitive coding tasks. He otherwise creates the functional 3D models and application himself.

Planned additions include console stickers and further customisation inspired by limited-edition hardware. Readers interested in organising large retro collections can also see our coverage of RomM’s browser-based library tools.
