An unofficial project seeking to bring the original Sly Cooper to PC has shown new development footage, although the native Windows port remains far from completion.

Known as Project Cane, the effort is reverse-engineering and decompiling the PlayStation 2 game rather than packaging it inside an emulator. Its developers intend to rebuild the necessary systems so that the original content can operate as a native Windows application.

The latest footage shows the early A Stealthy Approach level running through the developing port. Sly can move through its familiar environment and use his established platforming abilities, demonstrating that parts of the game are already functional.

The Project Cane repository currently includes tools for reading original game data, displaying levels and handling assets from different versions. Menus, audio, saving, controls, scripting and cutscenes still require considerable work.

No release window has been announced, making the footage a technical progress report rather than evidence of an approaching public launch. Project Cane is unrelated to Sony and original developer Sucker Punch Productions.

Another classic platformer undergoing similar work is covered in our article about the native Spyro the Dragon PC port.
