Black Salt Games, known for the award-winning dark fishing adventure DREDGE, has announced the founding of a new studio, Disc 2 Games. Following the successful launch of DREDGE in 2023 and its final expansion The Iron Rig, Black Salt Games has officially wrapped up development on the title and shifted focus to a new project. Meanwhile, the newly established Disc 2 Games, operating independently but under the same roof in Christchurch, is preparing its debut title.

After DREDGE captivated players with its unique blend of atmosphere, mystery, and unexpected mechanics, Black Salt Games decided it was time for a new step. “Development on DREDGE has technically come to an end, especially as we continue to support players on last-gen consoles,” said Nadia Thorne, the studio’s CEO and producer. “Now it’s time to focus on something new.”

Although details about Black Salt’s next project remain secret, the studio emphasizes that it will maintain its signature style, focusing on atmosphere, intriguing stories, and innovative mechanics, but in a completely new world. At the same time, Thorne co-founded Disc 2 Games with longtime collaborators Kris Nicholson and Johannes Otte. While it operates independently, Disc 2 shares a creative vision with Black Salt.

In the end, Nicholson, Disc 2 Games’ technical director, revealed that the studio has been working for over a year on its first title: “Our game blends ideas that work well together, and we can’t wait to share more.”
