Lyrical Media, an independent production company, has officially entered the video game industry with the launch of Lyrical Games. This new, privately funded publisher will focus on supporting independent games and is led by Blake Rochkind, who previously worked as the head of business development at Private Division.

Lyrical Games has “significant private funding” and a clear mission: to support “imaginative and high-caliber games that live between the extremes of smaller indies and massive AAA productions.” This space is often referred to as “triple-i,” and the new publisher aims to be a key player there.

The team at Lyrical Games is made up of experienced professionals from the industry. In addition to Rochkind, the company’s leadership includes Roger Kurtz, the former head of production at Private Division, along with publishing veterans who have worked at Devolver Digital, Humble Games, and Microsoft.

The publisher has already signed three games, with announcements and reveals for these titles expected “coming soon”. One of the signed games is the next project from Blackbird Interactive, the developer behind Homeworld 3.

Rochkind made a bold promise to developers saying: “In the high-end indie or ‘triple-i’ space, we believe we can offer among the best, if not the best, deal terms available right now.” He stressed that the company is looking for partners who want a meaningful say in how their game is presented to the world. He confirmed that developers will always keep ownership of their intellectual property, and that partnerships with Lyrical Games will prioritize collaboration and transparency.
