The golden days of browser games are making a comeback as Nitrome, the studio known for its pixel art and memorable Flash-era games, has announced the Nitrome Classics series. This new project is not just a quick re-release of old titles. Instead, Nitrome is rebuilding selected games from the ground up and bringing them to modern platforms, including Steam, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.

The rollout will begin in early 2026 and is designed to mix nostalgia with modern standards. Games that once ran at 20 frames per second in browsers will now run at a smooth 60 FPS. All titles will be updated to a 16:9 widescreen format and visuals are being refreshed with improved backgrounds, new menus, and added pixel-art cutscenes. Audio is getting a boost too, with high-quality music and, in many cases, new tracks from original composers such as Dave Cowen.

Leading the revival is Twin Shot Deluxe, an expanded version of the classic arcade platform shooter. This new edition includes more than 200 levels spread across four worlds, including a brand-new Atlantis area with 50 stages. Gameplay has been refined to feel more responsive, with better jumping control, smoother movement, and improved air handling. A new Hats system adds another layer of fun, allowing players to unlock headwear that grants special powers like shooting backwards.

At launch, Twin Shot Deluxe will focus on single-player and local co-op for up to four players. While online multiplayer is not included right away, Nitrome has said it may explore this option in future games if the series does well. After Twin Shot Deluxe, the studio has confirmed that Silly Sausage and Skywire will also receive the Classics treatment. During a recent Q&A, the team shared that fan favorites such as Bad Ice Cream, Final Ninja, and Nitrome Must Die are being considered for future mini-collections.
