Steam number of new releases has grown rapidly in 2025, but new data from SteamDB shows that most of these games are struggling to be seen. As of December 12, more than 19,112 games have launched on the platform this year. That means roughly 52 new titles are released every single day.

But this huge increase in quantity has not led to better visibility for developers. According to SteamDB, almost half of all games released in 2025 have fewer than ten reviews. Many titles are coming out, but a large portion of them are barely reaching any players at all.

A look at SteamDB’s yearly numbers shows how extreme the growth has been. Back in 2016, around 4,600 games were released on Steam. By 2025, that number has risen to nearly 19,000. This spike began after Steam eased its curation rules in 2017, making it easier for anyone to publish a game. While this openness has helped smaller developers get their games onto the store, it has also created a major discovery problem.

The data shows that games with zero to nine reviews make up more than 95% of releases across the past several years. For 2025 alone, the chart is dominated by the “No reviews” and “1–9 reviews” segments, confirming that nearly half of all new titles fail to reach even ten reviews.

Games that do achieve higher visibility are increasing in number, but at a much slower rate. In 2025, about 3,096 games reached 100 or more reviews. This is up from roughly 1,200 games in 2014, but compared to the massive growth in total releases, it represents only a tiny fraction of the platform’s output.
