Industry insider Tom Henderson recently claimed that Ubisoft is seriously considering a future built around reviving some of its most beloved older franchises through high-quality remakes. Leading that rumored push is none other than Rayman. Speaking on the Insider Gaming podcast, Henderson said he expects an official reveal for a Rayman Legends Remake sometime this summer, which would mark the franchise’s biggest return in years.

Originally released in 2013, Rayman Legends is still widely considered one of the best 2D platformers ever made. Between its fluid movement, gorgeous hand-drawn visuals, creative level design, and excellent co-op gameplay, the game became one of Ubisoft’s most universally praised titles during an era when the company was becoming increasingly associated with giant open-world formulas.

Interestingly, this isn’t Ubisoft’s first attempt to revisit the franchise. Henderson noted that a separate remake project called The Story of Rayman, reportedly a remake of the original PlayStation 1 classic, was canceled back in 2021 during internal cost-cutting measures.

But things now seem much more promising. According to the reports, internal reactions to the new Rayman project have been extremely positive so far, and Ubisoft apparently sees real potential in modernizing Rayman Legends for current hardware rather than fully reinventing the formula.

Instead of experimenting too heavily, Ubisoft reportedly plans to preserve everything players loved about the original game while enhancing the visuals, technical performance, and overall presentation for modern platforms. Local co-op, one of the game’s biggest strengths, is also expected to return.

Even more encouraging is the rumored development team behind the remake. Reports claim the project is being handled by the developers behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which immediately gives fans a lot more confidence. That game proved Ubisoft still absolutely understands how to make fantastic 2D action-platformers when it wants to.

The company has faced growing criticism in recent years over repetitive game design, underperforming releases, canceled projects, and ongoing financial pressure. Returning to beloved franchises with proven appeal could help Ubisoft reconnect with players who feel disconnected from the publisher’s more recent direction.
