This Tuesday, during the Nintendo Direct presentation dedicated to unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2 console, Supergiant Games confirmed that Hades II will be released on the new console in 2025. Creative Director Greg Kasavin appeared in the livestream to announce that Melinoë and her mythological crew will arrive on the Switch 2 and the original Switch as soon as the game exits its Early Access phase.

A precise release date for the 1.0 version in 2025 was not provided. Supergiant previously stated that Hades II will remain in Early Access until at least mid-2025, with the third major update planned for Spring 2025. Given this timeframe, the full version of the game, and thus the launch on the Switch 2, is expected to be between the second quarter (April to June) and the fourth quarter (October to December) of 2025. It is speculated that potential dates could be May 20 or July 22, 2025, based on Supergiant’s previous game launch patterns.

Hades II entered Early Access on May 6, 2024, for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. It was released in a more advanced state than the original Hades was in 2018, meaning it is playable from start to finish. Hades II is a roguelike dungeon crawler set in the Greek mythological Underworld, featuring the protagonist Melinoë, Princess of the Underworld and sister of Zagreus, the main character from the first installment. She battles Chronos, the Titan of Time, to save her family, with the help of the Olympian Gods like Apollo and Zeus.

The superior hardware of the Switch 2 (1080p screen, 120fps support) could enhance the fluidity of combat and the detailed graphics in Hades II, potentially allowing for smoother performance and higher resolution compared to the original Switch, which is limited to 720p. Hades II also retains Supergiant’s signature hand-painted aesthetic, with richer environments and a 3D-modeled Melinoë for smoother animations.
