Dreameffect Entertainment, a two-person indie studio, has confirmed that Duel Corp. will launch into Steam Early Access on January 21, 2026. The game is set in a land cursed by a strange sickness where every living eye has turned black, leaving the remaining survivors searching for the cause of the spreading shadow.
Inspired by Souls-like design, every attack and block depends on direction rather than simple button presses. Strikes must come from the right angle, and defense requires careful timing and positioning. Perfect parries, dodges, and counters can trigger powerful class-based effects. One example is the Assassin, who can disappear after a well-timed parry and return with a deadly counter.
Progression is built around freedom and experimentation instead of strict roles. While traditional starting paths like Paladin or Ice Mage are available, the system eventually opens up into full customization. More than 70 talents, along with gems, spells, and gear, allow for creative builds that mix styles and abilities. Heavy weapons can be combined with magic, stealth skills can sit next to fire spells and armor sets change both stats and appearance.
The journey begins in a shared online hub called The Hideout, where other adventurers can be encountered. Once outside that space, the world shifts into private areas that are either explored alone or with a small group of up to three friends. Much of the environment is procedurally generated to keep each run unique, while story quests and characters remain hand-crafted. For those who prefer a fully offline experience, all online features can be disabled.
Beyond the main adventure, Duel Corp. also offers competitive modes, including one-on-one and two-on-two arena battles that fully test the directional combat system. Controller support is included, and early testing has shown strong performance on Steam Deck hardware. After the Early Access launch, development will continue for roughly a year, with updates shaped by community feedback before the full release arrives.
