Solo developer Ben Dunko has announced Charon’s Obol, a new indie roguelike that combines Greek mythology with strategic coin-flipping mechanics. The game is scheduled to launch on Steam in Q4 2026, while a free playable demo is available now.

Set along the legendary River Styx, players challenge Death itself by collecting and upgrading a growing collection of mythical coins. Each coin possesses unique abilities and can be combined with others to create powerful synergies, forming the foundation of the game’s engine-building progression.

Throughout each run, you will choose divine patrons, overcome dangerous trials, banish monsters, and battle powerful bosses while constantly deciding whether to risk another coin toss. Every flip presents a strategic choice, balancing potential rewards against the dangers of failure.

Replayability is a major focus of Charon’s Obol. The game will launch with more than 100 collectible coins, over 30 playable characters, 25+ unique coin pools, and eight difficulty levels, including an infinite scaling mode designed to challenge experienced players.

The newly released announcement trailer highlights the game’s core mechanics, including upgrading builds, activating powerful abilities granted by the gods, and making high-risk, high-reward decisions through its distinctive coin-flipping system.
