11 bit studios, the Warsaw-based developer behind The Alters, has confirmed a new round of layoffs, with approximately 20 employees leaving the company as part of an internal restructuring.

In a statement provided to Game Developer, the studio said the decision was made to better align its workforce with the current stage of development across its projects. Despite the cuts, 11 Bit Studios emphasized that its financial position remains secure.

“We have been able to ensure internal transfers for the majority of our employees so they can continue their careers within the company, and are committed to ensuring that employees leaving the company receive the right support throughout this process.”

The developer explained that the restructuring is intended to “adjust new project teams to current needs, manage our expenses carefully, and maintain cost discipline.” It added that most affected employees were successfully reassigned to other internal teams before the remaining positions were eliminated.

“Regarding the transfers and numbers, we managed to ensure internal transfers for most of our employees so they could continue their careers within the company. However, for the roles that, unfortunately, could not be carried over into new projects at their early stages, we had to make the difficult decision to part ways with around 20 employees.”

This is not the first workforce reduction at 11 Bit Studios. Earlier in 2024, the company cut staff after canceling its unannounced project, Project 8, although more than half of that development team was reassigned to other positions within the studio.
