Belgian indie developer Joey’s Entertainment has released a Steam demo for The Journey Home, its meditative side-scrolling adventure scheduled to launch for PC in Q4 2026. The demo was announced alongside a new gameplay trailer during the Future Games Show at Gamescom on August 26th, 2026.

The Journey Home is being developed by husband-and-wife duo Joey and Sophie-Leigh Robbins, with Joey handling development and art while USA TODAY bestselling author Robbins is responsible for its story. The adventure takes place beyond conventional time and space, shifting between different ages as its protagonist searches for answers about life and death.

Its central mechanics include age morphing, which transforms the protagonist into a younger version of himself during particular scenes, and a pulse ability used to influence the environment without dialogue. Players can also travel aboard giant fireflies, jellyfish, a bird and a flying car inspired by the 1950s.

The surreal world materialises and dissolves around you, while the experience uses no conventional cutscenes or loading screens. A custom camera, minimal interface and meditative soundtrack are intended to preserve its atmosphere. Joey’s Entertainment cites INSIDE and Journey as inspirations for its environmental storytelling and emotional tone.

The studio says The Journey Home first attracted attention at Gamescom 2025, where its presentation left many booth visitors in tears. The newly available demo provides a public introduction ahead of the complete game’s planned Q4 2026 release.
