Indie developer Ambystoman is giving the classic Snake formula a fresh spin with its upcoming action game Dragon March. Coming soon to PC via Steam, the retro-inspired title combines challenging arcade gameplay with colorful visuals, unlockable cosmetics and a lighthearted story. Players can already try it through a free Steam demo.

In Dragon March, you control Cereal, a red robotic dragon trapped inside a mysterious computer system. Determined to escape, Cereal sets out to rescue fellow Metal Dragons while avoiding the many digital dangers lurking throughout the system. Along the way, players will encounter computer viruses, literal bugs and anti-virus operators standing between them and freedom.

The core gameplay takes inspiration from the classic Snake. As Cereal collects items and rescues other dragons, the character grows longer, making each level progressively more difficult. Colliding with walls, enemies or even the dragon’s own extended body results in failure, requiring careful movement and planning to safely reach the exit.

Unlike traditional Snake games, Dragon March uses tank-style controls that are easy to learn but designed to reward precision and mastery. The full game will feature more than three worlds filled with increasingly challenging stages, collectibles that reveal more about the game’s digital universe and an upbeat soundtrack inspired by the early 2000s.

Players will also be able to unlock a variety of costumes for Cereal. The newly released trailer showcases several alternate appearances, including armored designs and dragon-themed outfits that fans have compared to iconic creatures from franchises such as Digimon, Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!.
