Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Joins GameCube Classics on Switch 2

A long-requested classic has finally returned. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is now available through the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library, giving the 2005 strategy RPG a new home on modern hardware. As of January 9, 2026, access is included for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers on the Nintendo Switch 2. This marks the first official release of the game on a current console since its original launch more than twenty years ago.

Path of Radiance stands as a turning point for the Fire Emblem series, serving as its first fully 3D entry. The story is set on the continent of Tellius, where long-standing conflict divides the human beorc and the shape-shifting laguz. A sudden invasion by the kingdom of Daein throws the region into war, placing Ike, a young mercenary, at the center of the crisis. His rise from hired sword to respected leader gives the story a grounded tone, while themes of racism, power, and politics push the narrative into darker territory than many earlier entries.

The move to Switch 2 adds several modern features without changing the core experience. Improved resolution helps the visuals scale better on newer displays, while built-in Nintendo Classics features allow progress to be saved at any moment and rewound when mistakes happen. These tools are especially useful in a game known for permanent character death and tough tactical choices. Alongside the release, Nintendo has also added the full original soundtrack to the Nintendo Music app, making tracks like “Eternal Bond” and “Greil Mercenaries” available for streaming.

This addition continues Nintendo’s gradual expansion of its GameCube catalog on Switch 2, following the arrival of Wario World in December. With Path of Radiance now playable, attention naturally shifts to other long-rumored titles such as Super Mario Sunshine, Pokémon Colosseum, and Chibi-Robo!.
