Ten years after its release, Grim Dawn isn’t fading quietly into the background. Instead, it’s preparing one final, massive expansion. To celebrate the action RPG’s tenth anniversary, developer Crate Entertainment has revealed early details about Fangs of Asterkarn, a closing chapter described not as a simple add-on, but as expansion that will cement the game’s legacy in the genre.

In a forum post marking the milestone, production director Kamil Marczewski reflected on the unlikely longevity of the project: “Few could have predicted that a decade after launch, Grim Dawn would still receive major updates, let alone an expansion of this magnitude.”

The team has continued refining its aging engine, originally derived from Titan Quest, even fixing bugs that had lingered for years. That dedication has paid off, with Grim Dawn maintaining an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam and a steady player base that convinced the studio to deliver one last, ambitious send-off.

Calling Fangs of Asterkarn “just DLC” would undersell it. The expansion adds 5.5 square kilometers of new territory to explore, roughly 76 percent of the size of the existing world and dramatically larger than previous add-ons. Alongside new region comes a flood of content: 370 unique items, 117 Monster Infrequents, and 60 new bosses and minibosses, many with distinct visual designs.

The expansion also introduces meaningful gameplay systems. A customizable potion feature and new equipment refinement methods deepen character progression, while the long-awaited tenth mastery finally brings shapeshifting to the game, something the team once considered technically impossible within the constraints of the old engine.
