A classic run-and-gun franchise is celebrating a major milestone, and players can now jump back in at a reduced price across multiple platforms. To mark its 30th anniversary, all six main entries in the Metal Slug series are currently discounted, alongside even deeper deals on PC, giving both longtime fans and newcomers an easy way to revisit one of arcade gaming’s most iconic lineups.
The original Metal Slug first launched in Japanese arcades on April 19, 1996 before arriving on the Neo Geo AES shortly after. Known for its detailed pixel art, chaotic action, and distinct humor, the series quickly became a staple of the genre. It was followed by multiple sequels, including Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, and Metal Slug 5, alongside Metal Slug X, an enhanced version of Metal Slug 2 with gameplay improvements and adjustments.
On consoles, the current promotion comes from Hamster Corporation, which continues to preserve retro titles through its ACA Neo Geo lineup. All six main Metal Slug titles are available at 50% off across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One until May 6, bringing the price down to around €3.39 per game. These versions also remain playable on newer systems such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
At the same time, PC players are seeing even steeper discounts. On Steam, several classic entries, including the original Metal Slug, Metal Slug 3, and Metal Slug X, are currently discounted by up to 80%, with individual titles dropping to roughly €1.39 from their usual €7.99 price point. Bundles are also heavily reduced, offering multiple games at very low prices, while Metal Slug XX is available at around €3.39. These are the official SNK PC versions rather than the Arcade Archives releases, meaning features and presentation may differ slightly.
Each ACA Neo Geo release includes additional modes such as Original Mode, High Score Mode, and Caravan Mode, alongside online leaderboards, helping maintain the arcade feel while adding modern replayability features. Combined with the deep discounts currently available on Steam, this anniversary celebration offers one of the most accessible entry points into the series in years.
