I love small-scale games, especially platformers that are easy to pick up and master. Shadow Trick fits that description perfectly. It’s a charming little game with a delightful twist, aesthetically reminiscent of classic Super Mario titles.

You play as a wizard who can shift between the real world and a shadow realm. This unique mechanic is key to solving puzzles and progressing through levels. While it may draw inspiration from games like Limbo and Braid, the time-shifting element is always intriguing, and it will be interesting to see how it functions in this title. Naturally, you can also jump on enemies’ heads.

Set in a magical castle with various biomes, Shadow Trick offers a range of challenges, including different minions, traps, and boss battles. Its 16-bit visuals and charming music enhance the experience, and the trailer suggests you’ll face different enemies in both worlds. With over 20 cleverly designed levels, it will likely be a relatively short experience, though its replay value remains to be seen.

Shadow Trick is scheduled to release on Steam on September 12.
