Triple-i Initiative Showcase Revealed the Sequel to tinyBuild’s 2016 Hit, SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed

If you happen to remember, SpeedRunners was released back in 2016 and managed to accumulate more than 22 thousand reviews on Steam. TinyBuild decided to revive this indie hit after so many years, announcing the sequel called SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed during the Triple-I Initiative Showcase. The game will be playable on PC via Steam this year, while versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch will be released in 2026.

SpeedRunners 2 will bring the same adrenaline-fueled combination of platforming and competitive running, but with new challenges and richer multiplayer. The goal is clear, just like in the original: outpace opponents, utilize power-ups like rockets and traps, and avoid elimination by falling off the screen. Classic mechanics like sliding, wall-jumping, and using a grappling hook remain the core of the game, but now with additional strategic layers that elevate the dynamic to a higher level.

However, since the original SpeedRunners still has an active community, tinyBuild engaged the original studio, DoubleDutch Games, as consultants to ensure authenticity. “We wanted to inject new ideas but retain what made the game special,” stated tinyBuild CEO Alex Nichiporchik. In other words, Fair Play Labs, the studio behind the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl series, is currently developing this sequel.

In addition to featuring up to eight players competing in a single race, SpeedRunners 2 also brings redesigned HD graphics, improved grid infrastructure, and a colorful cast of characters, both old and new. As in the original, the tracks are inspired by retro-futuristic visions of the 1960s, further enriching the visual identity. Alongside all of the above, SpeedRunners 2 will feature tournaments, custom challenges, and private rooms for all types of competitions.
