Casper van Est, the designer behind the popular game Speedrunners, has revealed his next project with Second Stage Studio. The new game, called Sprint City, is a competitive 2D platformer built around fast movement and shared online play. It is planned to launch in Early Access on PC via Steam in 2026.
Sprint City was created with a clear goal in mind: to focus fully on movement. Van Est and his team wanted to strip things back and make moving through the world feel smooth, fast, and fun. Gameplay is all about speed, flow, and learning the best paths through each area. Players are free to explore open city districts filled with rooftops, shortcuts, and hidden routes. By linking moves like wall runs and grapples, they can keep their speed high and gain an edge over others in races or time challenges.
Multiplayer plays a big role in Sprint City. The game uses a shared world where nearby players appear naturally, creating a lively city full of activity. Friends who join together stay connected as they move between different districts, whether they are racing each other or simply exploring the city at their own speed.
To make it easy for friends to play together, Second Stage Studio has added a special guest feature. While the full game runs on Steam, owners can invite friends to join their party through a web browser. These guests can play for free without installing the game, making it simple for groups to jump in and start running together.
