Without a doubt, 2025 was a great year for indie games. Small teams made big hits that everyone talked about, especially because we finally managed to play Hollow Knight: Silksong. From climbing mountains with friends to fighting gods, everyone could find something for himself. Here is our top 12 list.
PEAK takes you and your friends on a tough climb up a huge mountain. You play as scouts who must work together to reach the top. One slip can send you falling, so you grab ropes, heal those that are hurt, and help each other tooo. The map changes every day and you can play solo or with up to four players online. Plus, the voice chat makes laughs happen when someone falls into lava. Made by Landfall and Aggro Crab, it went viral fast after launch in June. It’s simple to pick up but hard to master and it’s perfect for quick sessions or long nights with friends.
Next up is Absolum, a game that successfully blends beat ’em up action with roguelite runs. The story casts you as outcast heroes fighting to reclaim stolen magic from a tyrannical sun king. The action is immediate: you’ll punch, kick, and combo your way through hordes of foes, all rendered in beautifully hand-drawn worlds. It launched on Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in October and was published by Dotemu, with its fighting system developed by Guard Crush Games.
BALL x PIT turns old brick-breaking into a wild roguelite where it drops you into a deep pit full of monsters. You will have to launch balls to smash blocks, fuse them for power, and build bases. Additionally, heroes level up with loot as you go deeper. Devolver Digital put it out on Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in October. Reviews called it a unique take on arcade fun mixed with survivors-like chaos. Besides, short runs mean you always want one more go.
Taking the horde-smashing formula of Vampire Survivors and pushing it into bigger 3D environments, Megabonk is a roguelite developed by solo developer vedinad. The game quickly became a massive hit, launching on PC in October and blowing up fast to become a top indie hit on Steam charts. Its success is driven by a core loop where players constantly grab loot, level up, and unlock wild builds to satisfy a powerful power fantasy.
Deltarune, the acclaimed RPG sequel to Undertale, kept its unique charm shining brightly in 2025 with the release of new chapters from creator Toby Fox. This series masterfully blends intense bullet hell fights with funny dialogue and moments of deep, impactful choices. Players assume the role of Kris, exploring a mysterious world divided between light and dark. Fans had waited years, and that patience was rewarded when Chapters 3 and 4 dropped this year. The game is available on PC and consoles.
Tyler’s Video Game Studio successfully launched their new empire-building sim Schedule I into early access this April. The game immediately hooked millions of players by offering a unique journey: start small and build a drug empire in a gritty city, growing big through managing labs, workers, and complex deals. The experience is uniquely improved by a strong co-op mode, where friends can work together to handle the dirty work and maximize profits. Though it is PC only for now, the studio is committed to frequent updates, ensuring it remains the best game for groups who like to manage high risk and reward.
Dispatch puts you in charge of a dysfunctional team of goofy superheroes, forcing you to send these misfits to emergencies in a choice-driven comedy. Developed by Ex-Telltale developers at AdHoc Studio, the episodic game was released on PS5 and PC in the fall. The core gameplay challenges you to manage office drama, internal politics, and critical save moments, where your choices shape both the team and the overarching story. Often described as “The Boys meets The Office,” Dispatch offers deep branching paths for high replayability and quickly became a top-played game on the Steam and PlayStation 5.
The long wait finally ended in September: Hollow Knight: Silksong was released, immediately proving that Team Cherry delivered even more metroidvania magic. In this sequel, players step into the role of Hornet, exploring vast new bug kingdoms, fighting challenging bosses, and learning to silk their way up through the massive world. Living up to years of hype, Silksong was nominated for multiple awards and is available on PC, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Taking the winning formula of the first game, Hades II launched its full release, letting players dive into Melinoë’s roguelite runs against the gods. Supergiant Games ensured the sequel stands out with faster fights, powerful new boons, and story twists. Released on PC in September (with console versions coming soon), the game is already cementing its status as peak action.
Blue Prince has officially topped the list as 2025’s undisputed puzzle king. Developed by Dogwood Studios, this unique indie title centers on the ambitious task of building a mansion room by room in a roguelite style. The core gameplay successfully combines clever puzzles, deep layers of mystery, and a narrative thread. As players progress, they must solve mysteries, strategically place keys, and slowly uncover deeply buried family secrets for a satisfying story payoff. Critics agreed that Dogubomb truly nailed the balance, resulting in a game that scored an impressive 92+ upon its April launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
R.E.P.O. puts you and up to five friends in robotic suits, repossessing absurd valuables like pianos and vases from monster-haunted sites using glitchy physics grabs and proximity voice chat, in a frantic co-op horror. Developed by Swedish indie studio semiwork, the Early Access title launched on PC via Steam in late February. Core gameplay demands teamwork to haul fragile cargo amid gravity-defying beasts, earning [SURPLUS] for upgrades and weapons. Billed as “Lethal Company meets Content Warning with zany monsters,” it skyrocketed to a 271k peak concurrent players and millions in sales.
RV There Yet? is a funny, physics-based survival game where you and your friends are stuck in an old, broken RV after a vacation. To get home, you must find your way through dangerous wilderness areas, leading to lots of laughs, wild physics, and crazy challenges. This game, made by Swedish indie company Nuggets Entertainment, fully launched on PC in October. The gameplay is completely focused on working together through co-op driving, fixing the RV with scavenged parts, cooking food like, and using voice chat to plan, avoid disasters, and keep your friendships from falling apart.
